TPM Kick off at TIDC
In Tube Investment of India (TII), TPI & TIDC
have been adopting Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) as a way of
life. This is to achieve overall benefits by increased
productivity, reduction in costs as well as drastic improvement in
delivery and quality. TPM is a manufacturing led initiative that
emphasizes the importance of people to reshape an organization and
liberate its own potential. It ensures that a certain quality is
achieved in the entire operations and is targeted in elimination
of losses. TPM helps instill, a 'can do' and 'continuous
improvement' philosophy and highlights the importance of
production and maintenance team working together. It is presented
as a key part of an overall manufacturing philosophy. TPM is
focused towards improvements in Productivity, Quality, cost,
Delivery, safety and morale of the employees.
TPM was first started at the Hyderabad plant of
TIDC and was a proven success. It gave tremendous business
advantages. The TIDC team encouraged by the positive response
has embraced the TPM initiative at Ambattur. The team has been
going through the initial phase for last one year. The TPM
initiative at TIDC is aimed to increase productivity by 1 ½ times
its current capacity, ensure zero defect, zero equipment breakdown
and maintain zero accidents.
Prior to implementing on a company wide scale, it
is essential for the managers to understand TPM through model
machine experience. Ten model machines across the plants were
selected and teams formed with the Management Staff to study,
implement the TPM Targets through the model machine experience.
The teams having achieved the TPM targets, TIDC is ready to take
this momentum forward. The results of this initiative are expected
to be phenomenal, as all the employees will be actively
participating in the TPM circles. The team has been actively
associated with Mr.J.Anjaneyulu, a reputed professional in TPM.
In a formal function, TIDC organized its “TPM
KICK OFF” function at Ambattur Plant to share the success
stories of TPM model machines and presented the three-year plan to
its employees. Mr.M.A.Alagappan, Vice Chairman inaugurated the
function and Mr. Adhiraj Sarin, MD, delivered the keynote address.
It was delightful to have Mr.T.G. Ramanujam, DGM (Mfg.), Eicher
India who shared the customers’ perspective, apart from
other key customers and suppliers.
This is one more step in TIDC’s onward journey
to excellence
